I’ve had a revelation recently that has completely changed my outlook on my working life. It’s this: I’ve started having the courage to ask for what I want. Six months ago, I was still the type of woman who would silently hope that others would offer me fun plot twists in my career. I thought that working hard and doing the best job I could in my current role would be enough to be noticed and offered other opportunities.
This is such an empowering article. I’ve been feeling in a bit of funk and this has helped. I truly believe in everything you said and needed reminding of it. Thank you 🙏🏾
What a fabulous, thought provoking piece. Thank you for your honesty. I have to admit I did think as I was reading this, surely she has contacts & invitations galore, so I did appreciate the last part addressing this. Being a similar age to you, I do think that being in your 50’s is a time for opportunity. Whilst not young anymore, we are still young enough to do something materially different with our lives. I’m obviously in a reflective and receptive time at the moment as this has made me think. In a similar vein I would highly recommend Best Friends Therapy with the marvellous Elizabeth Day for different but no less thought provoking content.
This really hit me. And while I might not be bold enough right now and go after my dreams I’ve held in my heart for so long, I’ll be sure to keep your message top of mind so that I can work on building up that confidence, start believing in myself, and believe in what I have to offer. Thank you, Jo.
Thank you, Nicole. Instead of feeling like what you want is ‘too much’ to dare to dream about, sit with it. Really examine what you could do that might make it happen. X

Thanks Jo, I’m currently looking for new opportunities and forcing myself to be brave, I’m 55, I’ve got nothing to lose!
You really haven’t. Talk to people. Open up the conversation. Keep an open mind. Welcome it in. It will happen. X
