Agree with Amy re Clinique Black Honey. Also, as a product junkie, I love that there are cheapies here mixed in with the spendies. I love reading honest beauty stuff - please write more!
I’m with you on lipstick as a no no. My best recommendation for a tinted lip balm is Code8 am/pm tinted lip balm in “chameleon”that has some kind of Derron Brown style hoodoo that changes colour vaguely with your pH. No really! And I’m nearly 20 years out from free beauty products so I genuinely have to part with cash for make up now 😞
Love this Jo and really insightful into what you actually choose to spend your money on. Completely agree re lipstick, it's just not me at all! I feel very weird when I try and wear it x
Thanks Jo. I bless the day I discovered the Elemis Cleansing balm too. A spa like treatment without the price tag. Loving your Freemans edit too. More please 🙌🏼
Love this. I’m very low-maintenance (ie. lazy) and just want to use a few very good things to keep my skin looking good and a little bit younger for longer if at all possible. I’ll definitely be trying some of these items, especially the Elemis balm at the start of the post.
As the mother of a 6 year old that won’t stop talking at me, my reading time is limited. But I will absolutely make time to read articles like this. Skin care and make up has become so overwhelming, I like to hear from respected people who can help me cut through the noise. Thank you Jo.
My daughter (22) has just discovered Clinique black honey. She had no idea I have been using it all these years. I also look like the joker in lipstick. It’s the only thing I’ll wear!
Life after all those beauty freebies: What does an ex mag editor actually buy?
🙌🙌🙌🙌 love this

This is absolutely the kind of content I live for! Some of that foot stuff now arriving tomorrow because I too have decided that I now give a shit.

Substack has more than enough lugubrious think pieces. This kind of personal essay really gets to me - and I’ll never wear makeup. Great stuff!
Thank you for this 🙌 I need some of the O'Keefe's foot cream!!

LOVE this content. I would read beauty reviews forever, especially from someone as polished as you (yes, you are!).
Still missing my freebies but I didn’t ever take them for granted. Keep entertaining us Jo.
