I loved TV Hits. It always felt busier than Smash Hits, which I also loved. And i can’t ignore Big! And Number One! Oh yeah, and TOTP mag before it went kiddie (but didn’t they all)
Thanks for the memories Jo - back then I was looking in front of the outside so love hearing these amazing memories. I’m gutted I missed out on the teen mag years!
I loved Worlds Apart. Never understood why they didn’t do well. Still play their album to this day (come back and stay is a tune) In fact, playing it now!!!!!
And lucky you being name checked in their album!
I ended up being thanked (twice) in a Fast Food Rockers album sleeve! Result!
I loved TV Hits (I think that was where I encountered my first address book to the stars? I wrote to everyone for an autograph). I was never a Take That fan (E17 forever!) but feel so differently after watching the Boy Bands doc (and the Take That one Netflix is excellent!)
Thank you for sharing. I spent most of my teens growing up with these magazines and bands, and only now do we realise the stories behind the scenes! Thanks for the entertainment back then, and welcome to Substack now.
Loved this article, thanks Jo! So fascinating to get an insight into that world. I’m from Belfast so it was mainly Boyzone (then Westlife) posters lining my walls, all ripped out from the pop mags. Getting all the throwback feels reading this!
This was such a nostalgic read. Thanks for taking us behind the scenes.
Omg these covers take me back
